Give Away Your Car! Be Rewarded with a Donate Car Tax Write Off

If you’re not feeling the economic rut that seems to be a trend all over the world these days, it’s either you’re an incognito billionaire or you have a map to a hidden stash of treasure somewhere, in which case the more you need to read about this.

Charity will always be rewarded, and we’re not just talking about going to heaven kind of stuff here.  The government, particularly the IRS, is willing to give a donate car tax write off deduction to anyone kind enough to give away their wheels to charitable institutions.

Are You Insane to Give Away Your Car?

What would make a completely sane individual do that?  Well,  vans cars get old and you’ll definitely want a new one someday.  You’ll probably sell your old car and use the proceeds to buy the latest model to hit the dealerships.  It’s a very good plan and it will probably work.  But you have to take into consideration the fact that your car is not exactly a collector’s item and you have the burden of proving to buyers that it’s still worth buying which means a little fine tuning with the engine, a little paint job to cover the scratches, maybe changing the leather seat and all these cost money.  You haven’t gone to the market yet and you’re already spending.

Giving away your old car for charity purposes will not only give you a tax write off for car donation but you also eliminate the need to spend on repairs to satisfy would be buyers not mention the fact that you’ve contributed to a cause that would help the sick and the less fortunate.

But you should also be aware that there are guidelines to follow even when doing the Good Samaritan act.  First, you have to be sure that the charitable institution you choose is registered and operating legitimately.  There are more scammers out there than people who genuinely love to help other people and you should take care not to be duped into giving your car to them, otherwise the donate car tax write off will be waived and you don’t get to buy a new car as well.  Second, you need to have your car appraised first.  These groups are not being picky but they just want to make sure that your car really has some value left in it.  After all, what good would your donation be if they can’t make money off of it?  But you don’t have to worry because doing this will also help your cause as the value of your car will be the same amount you can ask the IRS to deduct from your tax payables.

It’s not easy to give away something of value specially ones that have been with you for quite a while but the good it will do the other people is also something to think about.  It’s not really about donating car tax write off but a chance to do good to your fellow human beings.
